My interest in drawing and painting has always been there but it’s only in recent years that it has found its voice. After a career in teaching and raising two beautiful daughters, it was time to rediscover my artistic side.
In 2007 I enrolled in drawing and painting classes at Wyreena Community Centre and under the guidance of Stephanie Carr, learnt a lot about colour and self expression. She encouraged us all to find our own way and her lessons were invaluable.
In 2009 I joined the Ringwood Art Society and enrolled in classes with Craig Penny, a wonderful contemporary acrylic artist. His classes were fun and taught me a lot about loosening up and painting with a freedom of expression. Being a member of an art society has also given me opportunities to exhibit and attend demonstrations and workshops. So much to learn!
During 2009 I participated in a workshop with Angelo Quabba, an award winning and world renowned artist. His paintings exhibit a passion and zest for life that was very infectious. His mantra, “don’t be afraid of the darks”, has stayed with me.
In 2010 I joined the committee of the Ringwood Art Society and enjoy working with fellow artists. I am currently painting with Raelene Sharp, an extremely talented artist whose use of light is awesome. She is an award winning portrait artist and is generous in sharing her knowledge and skill. I am learning so much in her classes.
I enjoy painting in many mediums but currently oil painting is my passion. I love the whole process of inspiration, creation and enjoyment of a finished painting. Whilst I am constantly inspired by many talented artists, I am developing my own style and form of expression. I am always learning and discovering new things, not just about painting but about myself as well.
